SCHOOL SOCIAL WORKER

Through home and school collaboration, the Academy successfully educates all students providing them with stimulating and challenging experiences in a clean, safe, and healthy environment.
School social work is a specialized practice area within the profession of social work. School social workers are a vital part of the total educational team of a school. The primary object of school social work is to improve student’s potential for improved academic.
School social workers work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, counselors, psychologists, nurses, speech pathologists, other staff and families. School social workers attempt to integrate information from many sources along with a student’s overall social, emotional, behavioral and adaptive functioning in school, at home, and within the community in order to improve learning opportunities and develop educational resources. School social workers are bound by professional ethics and are responsible for their continued professional growth and development.
Schedule and conduct parent interviews with regard to academic concerns, family crisis, behavioral issues and/or special education evaluations.
Provide direct treatment or intervention for mental, emotional and behavioral disorders for students, their parents and groups of students.
Provide interventions and support services in times of crisis, i.e. suicide, death, assaults, school violence and other catastrophic events.
Evaluate and assess eligibility for students to receive special education services as Emotionally Impaired.
Systematic observation and bio-psychosocial assessment of children and youth in order to formulate diagnostic impressions and provide recommendations for interventions.
Complete Functional Behavior Assessments and Develop Behavior Intervention Plans. Administer, interpret, and report selected empirical based assessments of clients.
Acts as an advocate for clients’ rights.
Refer and link families and students to community resources and make agency contacts for information and services such as FIA, medical and psychiatric hospital and clinics, substance abuse centers, psychotherapist, legal aid, courts, ISDs, etc.
Responds to all levels of supervision.
School Social Workers also provide the following coordination and collaboration services.
Crisis intervention and follow-up (home, school and community).
Coordinate and develop classroom and community programs.
Provide in-service education to school personal regarding parenting education, disability, awareness, violence prevention, and self- awareness.
Coordinate, plan and conduct multidisciplinary team and IEPT meeting.
Consultation with families, students, teachers, parents, administrators and other staff.
Collaboration with community resources and agency personnel serving families.
Responsible for punctual, regular and consistent attendance.
Must have School Social Worker Certification
