Lake Superior Academy opened in 2016 and offers a public school Montessori educational option to families in the Eastern Upper Peninsula. The philosophy of the school is based on a perfect combination of Maria Montessori's approach to education and a European-style outdoor emphasis on learning.
Our curriculum includes an element that includes a STEM-based outdoor learning environment. The school has chickens, bunnies, crabs, birds, frogs and guppies. We are currently boarding two miniature horses and one alpaca awaiting the opening of our animal barn.
The school believes that students will thrive if they can learn in a beautifully prepared environment and are allowed to progress at a pace that allows time for mastery of the concepts being presented.
Currently, Lake Superior Academy has two classrooms - a 4, 5, an 6 year old classroom and a 7, 8, and 9 year old classroom. Each is housed in its own modern and efficiently designed log building and each has daily access to the outdoor learning area, animal barn and acres of trails for hiking, snowshoeing and exploring.
