Francis Street Primary School

In August of 2018, doors will be opening to a new Primary School at 1320 Francis Street Jackson, MI. Francis Street Primary School will be a tuition-free, public, not-for-profit charter school. Francis Street Primary will begin with Kindergarten students through Grade 2 with one grade to be added every year thereafter.

Francis Street Primary will feature an extended school year calendar, small class sizes (20 children per classroom), a small school setting, and caring relationships in a family-like atmosphere. At Francis Street Primary, our promise to parents is their child will learn and their child will be known and cared for.

A major feature of Francis Street Primary will be the implementation of a very unique curriculum. Francis Street Primary will be an EL School ( which offers a different approach to teaching and learning.

  • Mastery of Student Knowledge and Skills. Students demonstrate proficiency and deeper understanding, apply their learning, think critically, and communicate clearly.
  • Culture and Character. All students will be known and cared for. Everyone will be committed to the Habits of Character and Scholarship. Students work to become effective learners, to become ethical people, and to contribute to a better world.
  • High-quality work. Students create complex work, demonstrate craftmanship, and create authentic work, under the guidance of quality teachers.

The school environment will promote deeper learning and support students to succeed academically, as ethical people, and in the quality of their work. Students will gain skills critical to college readiness and lifelong success – reading, writing, math, problem-solving, critical thinking, collaboration, and perseverance toward excellence and active citizenship. Teachers will be committed to professional development and coaching, which will include training in EL Education ( in order to continuously improve their teaching .
