2018-19 Special Education Teacher Henry Ford Academy is a public charter high school academy located in Dearborn, Michigan. We are seeking to a High School Special Education Teacher. All applicants must be certified and highly-qualified secondary teachers in with appropriate Special Education Certification. Certifications Minimum Qualifications : Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate. Endorsement in Special Education Ability to support high school curriculum Must meet or exceed requirements for Highly Qualified. Demonstrates considerable knowledge of special education rules, guidelines and procedures. • Demonstrates professional and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with all students, parents and school Personnel. Demonstrates strong oral and written communication skills. Demonstrates strong organizational and management skills. Demonstrates strong consultation skills for supporting special education skills in inclusive settings. Demonstrates expertise in collaborative teaching to support special education students in inclusive settings. Responsibilities Provide specialized, group and individualized educational instruction to Special Education students in general education through co-teaching, and in resource programs for direct instruction in areas of disability as identified by the students' IEPs. Locate, select, modify/accommodate and present individually tailored instructional materials for each student, and communicate the student's learning needs each of his/her teachers. Provide consultative support to the general education teachers through routinely scheduled consultation related to the progress of identified students in the resource room and general education classes. Manage student behaviors and maximize student engagement/achievement. Facilitate open, continuous communication with general education staff, administrators and parents. Develop, coordinate and conduct REEDs, METs, IEPs, FBA/BIPs, MDRs and Transition Plans. Administer and translate comprehensive achievement testing for annual and three-year reevaluations with a variety of assessments including, but not limited to: WRAT, Woodcock-Johnson III. Maintain accurate and complete records, according to district policies/procedures and IDEA law. Develop and implement Functional Behavioral Assessments and Behavioral Intervention Plans. Attend all Special Education and building staff meetings and professional development. Participate in building and/or district committees. Adhere to policies of the Wayne Resa Special Ed Guidelines. Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Special Education Director or Building Principal.
