Old Redford Academy Secondary Instructional Staff ELA (English Language Arts) I Position Summary: This position is responsible for the development of reading, writing, listening and speaking skills. II Major Duties: (1) Curriculum Development: (a) Align instructional methods/practices with curriculum as prescribed in the School improvement Plan. (b) Align curriculum with HSCE or Content Expectations, with emphasis on writing and reading. (c) Utilize standardized and non –standard assessment data do through driven instruction, such as MME, Explore/Plan, ACT data etc. (d) Incorporate the writing process within lessons. (2) Instruction: (a) Validate principles of teaching. Learning must be delineated understood and applied to ensure that students comprehend. (b) Differentiates lessons to meet all Students’ needs within classroom formatted with District expectations. (c) Align long-range plans and lesson plans with the objectives of the State requirements. (d) Ensure a safe and productive climate for learning to occur. (e) Use a variety of instructional methods and resources to meet differing learning styles and abilities. (f) Integrate technology into curriculum delivery. (g) Focuses classroom time on teaching and learning. (h) Link instruction to real-life situations of students. (i) Follows a consistent schedule and maintains procedures/routines. (j) Handles administrative task quickly and efficiently. (k) Maintains momentum within and across lessons. (l) Sets clearly articulated high expectations for self and students. (m) Stresses student responsibility and accountability (n) Carefully links learning objectives and activities (o) Organize content for effective presentation. (p) Consider student attention span and learning styles when designing lessons. (q) Develops objectives, questions, and activities that reflect higher and lower level cognitive skills appropriate for the content and the students. (3) Evaluation: (a) Establish curriculum goals and objectives, periodically access the instructional process to determine whether or not goals are me. (b) Responsible for administering standardized testing. (c) Track and monitor students’ progress to determine how to guide instruction and student success. (d) Make timely referrals for intervention or retention, when necessary. (e) Develop appropriate assessments to measure individual student progress. (4) Organization: (a) Organize classroom day-to-day functions that support mission and school expectation. Handles routine tasks promptly, efficiently, consistently. Prepares materials in advance ready to use. Organizes classroom space efficiently. (b) Demonstrate effective classrooms management that fosters mutual respect and reflects student expectations outlined in school handbooks. Uses consistent and proactive discipline. Establishes routines for daily tasks and needs. Orchestrates smooth transitions and continuity of classroom momentum. Balances variety and challenge in student activities. Multitask. Is aware of all activities in the classroom. (5) Classroom Management: (a) Interprets and responds to inappropriate behavior promptly. (b) Implements rules of behavior fairly and consistently. (c) Reinforces and reiterates expectations for positive behavior. (d) Uses appropriate disciplinary measures as prescribed by Student Code of Conduct such as placing students in the hallway unsupervised. (e) Use positive language when addressing students. (6) Leadership: (a) Represent the mission of Old Redford Academy Preparatory High School in an Effective manner generating public support for the school’s program. (b) Role Model for the moral and ethical growth and socialization of the children-essential for the building of their character and moral fibers. (c) Instill respect in students by consistently enforcing all Scholl policies and procedures, in particular the dress code and Student Code of Conduct. (d) Work with parents and citizens in resolving community issues; establish positive relationships that are n support of the school’s mission. (e) Actively participate in all staff meetings, departmental meetings, in-service training, and parent/teacher conferences. (f) Meet regularly with other departmental members to coordinate curriculum delivery and discipline. (g) Develop positive parental relationships to support student achievement and school mission. (h) Actively participate in coordinating after school extra-curricular activities or instructional support programs. (7) Administrative Duties: (a)Maintain accurate attendance and grade books 1. Attendance must be taken every hour for platoon classes. (b) Submit lesson plans as determined by Building Administrator. (c) Prepare and submit timely report card markings. 1. Give clear, specific, and timely feedback to students Parent/Guardian. (d) Must participate in grade level and content level meetings. (e) Prepare students for school-wide “spelling bee”. (f) Timely submit and maintain progress reports. (g) Grades must be in Skyward on a weekly basis. (h) Prepare students for participation in various essay contest. (8) Other Duties as Assigned: Cooperate and professionally perform any task that are assigned and will promote the Mission Statement of Old Redford Academy.
